It’s Monday morning, and I’m sitting at the table in our garden here in the Dordogne — one of my favourite places in the world. The early sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the forest surrounding our home feels calm and alive. It’s the perfect space for reflection, creativity, and a gentle start to the week.
It hasn’t always been this way. Like many people, I used to dread Monday mornings. I remember the rush of getting my daughter ready for school, the pressure of a demanding job as a TV producer, and the stress of a week already packed with deadlines. Most Sunday nights I couldn’t sleep, my mind running through endless “to-do” lists.
That contrast was actually a gift. It showed me what I didn’t want — and gave me clarity about what I did.
When I transitioned from stressed-out TV producer to self-employed Life Coach in 2005, I made a conscious decision to change how I began my week. I wanted Mondays to feel spacious, grounded, and aligned. I stopped filling them with commitments and started saying yes to space. One of the first shifts was booking a yoga class at 11am on Mondays — deliberately creating an anchor for calm and wellbeing.
Letting go of guilt and the endless list of “shoulds” wasn’t easy at first. But as soon as I began giving myself permission to slow down, I noticed something magical: the rest of my week started to reflect the energy of ease and flow that I was cultivating on Mondays.

Since then my Monday mornings have been sacred. I wake naturally, without an alarm. I move gently into the day with yoga, meditation, and contemplation, followed by a nourishing breakfast. Then I set my intentions for the week and allow inspiration to flow — like writing this blog, with the forest as my witness.
This rhythm is a million miles away from the “make it happen” hustle culture I grew up with, and it has completely reshaped how I work and live.
Nearly everyone I know says the same thing: there aren’t enough hours in the day. We’ve become human doings instead of human beings.
But from my experience of living intentionally for over 15 years, I can tell you this: if you’re truly committed to meaningful change in your life, creating space is non-negotiable. Stillness is what allows clarity, creativity, and transformation to emerge. Without space, we simply repeat old patterns. With space, we open to new possibilities.
“Stillness is the first requirement for manifesting your desires,
because in stillness you connect with the field of pure awareness and infinite organising power.”
Deepak Chopra, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
That small decision — to protect my Monday mornings — became a doorway to an entirely new way of living. By shifting my vibration from stress to peace, I aligned with a life that is now rooted in deep balance and wellbeing.
