At the start of a new year - and at many other points of transition - it’s natural to feel a quiet pull to take stock of where you are.
Not to reinvent yourself.
Not to fix everything.
Not to create a long list of goals.
Simply to pause… and notice.
The Wheel of Life exercise is a simple, reflective coaching tool that helps you take an honest snapshot of your life right now - without judgement, pressure, or urgency to change.
It offers perspective.
And sometimes, perspective is enough.
The Wheel of Life is a visual self-assessment tool often used in coaching. It divides your life into key areas - such as health, relationships, work, finances, creativity, personal growth, environment, and contribution - and invites you to rate your current level of satisfaction in each one.
When you connect those scores, you see your “wheel” take shape.
Sometimes it’s smooth and balanced.
Sometimes it’s uneven.
Either way, it tells a story.
And the story isn’t about success or failure.
It’s about awareness.
In the accompanying video, I guide you gently through the Wheel of Life as a way of noticing:
🌙 Which areas of your life feel satisfying
🌙 Which areas may be quietly asking for attention
🌙 How awareness alone can bring clarity - without rushing into action
Although this reflection is often used at the beginning of a year, it’s just as relevant anytime life feels full, unclear, or quietly ready for change.
Transitions don’t only happen in January.
They happen after illness.
After loss.
After children leave home.
When work no longer fits.
When something inside you begins to stir.
The Wheel of Life gives that stirring a place to land.
You can work with this tool in a simple way:
1. Choose 8–10 areas of your life that feel meaningful to you.
2. Rate each area from 1-10 based on your current satisfaction.
3. Notice the shape of your wheel.
4. Sit with what arises - without immediately trying to solve it.
Ask yourself:
What surprises me?
Where do I feel most alive?
What feels neglected?
What small shift would feel nourishing rather than overwhelming?
This isn’t about dramatic change.
It’s about honest seeing.
And honest seeing is powerful.
I’ve created a free Wheel of Life assessment exercise that you can use alongside this reflection, so you can work with it in your own time and return to it whenever you need perspective.
You may find that your answers evolve as you do.
And if you find yourself returning to these questions again and again, that’s often a sign you’d benefit from a container - a supportive space where clarity can be explored and integrated more deeply.
If you’re navigating a period of change and would value steady, thoughtful support, I offer a free exploratory chat to help you explore whether Transition Coaching with me would feel like the right next step.
You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Sometimes the most powerful shift begins not with action - but with attention.
